Château du Taureau
The Château du Taureau is a sea fort in the Bay of Morlaix, off Plouezoc'h in Finistère, Brittany, France. The town of Morlaix began building it in the 1540s to defend the approaches to its port following an English raid in 1522. Initially maintained and commanded by the municipality, the fort passed into royal control in the 17th century. As part of the strengthening of France's coastal defences under Louis XIV, Vauban drew up plans for its reconstruction in 1689; the works were completed in 1745. Although recognized as part of Vauban's wider system of fortifications, the château is not included among the twelve groups of fortifications inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as the Fortifications of Vauban.
