The Bears Bluff National Fish Hatchery is a fish hatchery administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service located on Wadmalaw Island, one of the Sea Islands of South Carolina in the United States. The 31-acre (13-hectare) hatchery grounds lie in lowland forest and salt marsh environments on the shore of Wadmalaw Sound in the South Carolina Lowcountry in Charleston County. Like other components of the National Fish Hatchery System, the hatchery's mission is to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats, as well to cooperate with like-minded partners to further these goals. The hatchery researches fresh-water, salt-water, and anadromous species of fish and ways of improving fish culture and propagation. It also raises other species of animals for release into the wild and plants for transplantation into natural ecosystems.
