Forest King
The Forest King was a giant sequoia in Nelder Grove, California, that was felled in 1870 and prepared for exhibition. A section of the trunk was transported to Stockton, California, and later toured cities including Chicago, Cincinnati, and New York City. P. T. Barnum acquired the exhibit in 1871 and displayed it at his New York attractions before giving it to publisher Frank Leslie in 1874. Leslie installed the exhibit at his estate in Saratoga Springs, New York. The stump of the Forest King in Nelder Grove was rediscovered in 2003.
