Torrington Gopher Hole Museum
The Torrington Gopher Hole Museum, also known as the World Famous Gopher Hole Museum, was a roadside attraction located in Torrington, Alberta, which featured 77 stuffed gophers posed to resemble townspeople in 44 dioramas. Roughly 7–10,000 people visited the museum every year. While it was open primarily during the summer months, they also opened by request. Dioramas depict gophers as hunters, firefighters, cosmetologists, priests, bank robbers, RCMP officers, pool players, and First Nations people. From its opening day until recently, the World Famous Gopher Hole Museum charged $2 for adults and 50 cents for children. With the loss of revenue resulting from the pandemic and soaring expenses, the museum switched to a "by donation" model in its final years. On September 26, 2026, the museum closed because the aging building housing the museum could no longer support the air conditioning that kept the taxidermy in optimal conditions.
