⛪ Chiesa Vecchia, Macugnaga

The Old Church is a small church located in the alpine village of Macugnaga in northern Italy, at the foot of Monte Rosa. The church was built in the second half of the 13th century and was dedicated to the Blessed Mary of the Assumption. The church is surrounded by a cemetery where many alpinists, climbers, and writers have been buried or honoured. It is located in the Dorf, a neighbourhood of the village where the Walser people used to live in huts made of larch trunks. Adjacent to the religious building, there is an ancient tree named The Old Linden, which is approximately 700 years old.
