One formula, honest inputs: energy (kWh) = watts × hours ÷ 1,000, cost = energy × your tariff. The two numbers people get wrong are the tariff (use the all-in rate on your bill, not the headline) and duty cycle (a fridge’s compressor does not run 24 h — it runs maybe 8 of them). Both rows below warn you about themselves.

The tariff is the whole answer

The same fan can cost four times as much to run in one country as another — which is why the tariff field is yours to fill and this page never ships a default national rate. Check your latest bill’s total: divide the amount due by the kWh used and you get the all-in rate (energy + network + taxes + levies), the only number that reflects what a real extra kWh costs you. Time-of-use tariffs change the maths again: the EV charged at midnight is not the same kWh as the oven at 7 p.m.
