Inflation is compound interest running the wrong way. This page does the two directions of that arithmetic: forward — what today's figure costs in N years at your stated rate — and backward — what today's pile of cash is really worth in N years. It prints the exact doubling/halving time alongside the rule of 72 shortcut, because every finance page quotes the shortcut without checking it.

Bring your own honest rate

This page deliberately does not fetch "the" inflation rate: every country publishes several (headline CPI, core CPI, your personal basket), revisions land months later, and a silent API number on a calculator page hides which one you are compounding. Look up your own statistics office's current CPI — the one with the publication date on it — and type that here. The rule of 72 is printed next to the exact logarithm on purpose: at 2% it says 36 years while the truth is 35.0 — a 3% error that is fine for coffee talk and not fine for a retirement plan.
